The beginning

Our story

We met in 2021, on Tinder.

Ruby came first. He was Tammi's long before he was ours, five kilos of orange Angora Persian. Suga, three kilos of white fur and blue eyes and Angora Persian too, was adopted a few months into our relationship. The two of them have been the glue ever since.

We are different in almost every way, but we want the same thing in the end, which is to live as global citizens and see as much of the world as we can.

The date picked itself. The tenth of October is Edward's birthday, and October is the month we count our anniversary from.

We chose the Macquarie Watchtower because it holds two things at once: history and a view. It has stood there a long time, which is how this relationship has felt, and we would like the years ahead to look like what you see from that headland.

Where

Macquarie Watchtower

Kamay Botany Bay National Park

Anzac Parade
La Perouse NSW 2036

A small sandstone tower built in the 1820s on the headland at the end of Anzac Parade, looking out over Botany Bay. It is the oldest building still standing on that shore.

The ground is grass and sandstone and the wind comes straight off the water, so flat shoes and something warm over your shoulders will serve you well.

Should the forecast turn

If the weather changes the day before, we will move to a restaurant nearby. We will send the name by WhatsApp on the Saturday, so please leave an active WhatsApp number on the reply form below. Thank you.

Questions

May I bring a guest?

Yes. You and one guest are very welcome. Please tell us on the reply form, so that we know the number before the day.

Will we be sitting or standing?

Standing. We are not setting out chairs, so please come prepared to be on your feet. The ceremony runs about thirty minutes, and a little longer if you stay for photographs with us afterwards.

The ground is grass and sandstone and it is uneven, so flat shoes will serve you much better than heels.

Are children welcome?

Yes, very. Please let us know in the notes on the reply form so we can expect them.

What if it rains?

We will move to a restaurant nearby. We will send the name by WhatsApp the day before, once the forecast is clear, which is why we ask for an active WhatsApp number on the reply form.

How do we get there, and where do we park?

The watchtower stands at the end of Anzac Parade in La Perouse. Parking nearby fills quickly on fine weekends, so allow extra time. Buses run to La Perouse from the city; plan the trip on Transport NSW.

May we take photographs?

Please do, as many as you like, photographs and video both. If you post anything, tag us at @tamed.111026 — we would like to see the day through your phones as well as our own.

We will also be photographing and recording the day, and by coming along you are giving us your consent to share those pictures and that recording on our Instagram. If you would rather not appear, tell us and we will keep you out of it.
